Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) was an iconic German born Hollywood screen actress/cabaret artist.

In 1965 a 20 year old Pieter Toerien invited her to South Africa and she accepted, so the Toerien-Rubin Company brought her to South Africa again in 1965, to perform at the Johannesburg Civic and once more in 1966.

She apparently also played "Laura" in Noel Coward's Brief Encounter, broadcast on 27 April 1966 in Castle Playhouse. A rare recording of this production was made by Grant Advertising Ltd.
