The original text
Owing to the difficulties of actually writing it down, a group of children imagine their play in which there are scenes from a fairy tale, The Princess and the Woodcutter, a pirate story and a Christmas episode which includes many pantomime and nursery rhyme characters.
The play was first produced at The Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith on the 24th December, 1918.
