John Gassner's modernised version was produced by Beth Dickerson, presented by the Rhodes University Drama Department in April 1969 starring Felicity Whitcher (Mak's wife, Gill), Frantz Dobrowsky (Coll), Ian Walters (Gib), Stephen Gurney (Daw), Mark Develin (Mak), Peter Terry (An Angel), Isobel Rennie (The Virgin Mary) and Hansell Hewitt (Joeph). Music by Professor Georg Gruber, Angel's Song sung by Werner Nel. It was presented in a double bill of two comedies, the other being Menaechmi.
