Mynie Grové

Mynie Grové () is a singer-songwriter, music producer and actress.

Biography

Born Mynie Basson Smith, she grew up on the farm Avondson near Worcester in the Western Cape. A music prodigy from the age of 3, she went on to study graphic design and music after school, then worked for a while as a model, but went back to university where she studied music and psychology. She gave it up after being discovered by German producer Claude Larson. When Claude Larson moved to Cape Town, Mynie became a founder member of the Claude Larson Singers in 1971, where she met Jan Grové and with him developed the duo called Mynie & Jan. They married in 1972, but would separate in 1978 (or 1979, depending on which source you use) when she moved to Johannesburg.

She retained Grové as her professional name, going on to work as a solo artist with EMI-Brigadiers. Then came a signing with Moonshine Records, her own music publishing company Mailbox Music and her own label, Vusa Records. She currently trades as Amagroove Music.

As composer

She composed music for the films Blink Stefaans (1981), 'n Pot Vol Winter (1992), the stage play Heidi - Die Musiekblyspel

As performer

Even though music was always going to be her main calling, she also acted in or made appearances in movies and television series on occasion.

Film and TV

She appeared in a number of TV programmes, including as a judge on the Afrikaans Idols (2006)[1]

She appeared as performer in the Afrikaans films such as Eendag op 'n Reëndag (1975), Kiepie & Kandas (1981),

For TV she appeared in the series Herberg (1983), the TV movie Skoppensboer (1984),

Stage

Her stage appearances included roles in Sin (1993),
