Mahlatsi Mokgonyana (19**-)
Mahlatsi Mokgonyana is a South African theatre director, dramaturge, actor, writer and poet. Born in Dawn Park on the East Rand, he met Billy Langa while studying at the Market Theatre Laboratory, and the two co-founded the theatre collective The Movement RSA and the collaborative partnership Theatre Duo.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Mokgonyana's work prizes the inherent truth of a piece of theatre and the impact it has on its audiences, and he has explored minimalism in performance rather than spectacle. He provided the direction, dramaturgy and design for Tswalo, written and performed by Billy Langa. He directed My Children! My Africa! in 2016, at the height of student protest action in South Africa, and directed the Jefferson Tshabalala plays Khongolose Khommanding Khommissars and the revival of Poet-O-Type. He developed the minimalist piece SALT during a residency at The Centre for the Less Good Idea.

Mokgonyana received the 2017 Cape Town Fringe Fresh Award for Directing and a Naledi Theatre Award for Best Production. With Billy Langa he was named a 2022 Standard Bank Young Artist for Theatre.
