Lucky Strike is a play by Gisele Turner (1950-)

The original text

A play for 6-13 year olds about an unwanted puppy that saves the day and becomes a family’s hero. Set in the Inanda Township and utilizing puppets, the play focuses on a young boy who is part of a child-headed household. An orphaned puppy wanders into S'fiso's shack and changes his life.

Written in 2010, and developed collaboratively between Lashona Art and Theatre Creations[1] and Gisele Turner of Happy-go-Lucky Productions, it has been performed in Durban at the D.U.T. Children's Festival (in 2011) and has toured schools.

The playtext gained second place in the Trinity College of London International Playwriting Competition and has been included in a compendium of award-winning plays compiled by Trinity College London. The text has also been published as a Grade Seven Set work for English (first language) and Zulu (second language).

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

2011: Developed and performed Lashona Art and Theatre Creations[2] and Gisele Turner of Happy-go-Lucky Productions at the D.U.T. Children's Festival and has been taken tour of Natal schools.

2016: Performed at the Nandogam EcoVillage iKHO! Festival that took place at Durban's Seabrooke's Theatre on 26, 27 and 28 February.
