Little Mary Sunshine

Little Mary Sunshine [1] is a musical that parodies old-fashioned operettas and musicals. The book, music, and lyrics are by Rick Besoyan (1924-1970) [2]. The original Off-Broadway production premiered in 1959 in New York City's East Village.

Performance history in South Africa

1965: Staged by JODS in Johannesburg, directed by Ricky Arden, with musical direction by Shirley Shearman and Jack Kruger and choreograpy by Joan Blake. The cast included: Harry Hambleton (Chief Brown Bear), Charles Vernon (Cpl. Jester), Ivan Berold (Capt. Warrington), Jeannette James (Mary Potts), Louise Wessels (Mme von Liebedich), June Herne (Nancy Twinkle), Wim St. Moritz (Fleet Foot), Trevor Wayne (Yellow Feather), Frank Douglass (Gen. Fairfax) and others.

1991: Performed by the Rhodes University Drama Department, directed by Sydney James, with a cast that included Darryl Nel (as "Billy")
