Ladima Foundation

The Ladima Foundation is a Pan-African, non-profit organisation based in Cape Town.


Focussed on supporting women in the fields of filmmaking, video production and related content development, the foiundation was co-founded by Lara Utian-Preston and Edima Otuokon in 2017, launching the A-List, a database of women professionals working in the industry across Africa, in 2018 and in 2019 announced an advisory board, comprising Biola Alabi, Themba Bhebhe, Catherine Gitahi, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, Charlotte Giese, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Fibby Kioria, Elias Ribeiro, Monica Rorvik and Debra Zimmerman.

Founded with the aim of contributing to correcting the major imbalances within the industry, Ladima specifically aims to support women in a variety of roles within these fields, through a range of projects and interventions, partnerships and collaborations, in various countries, as well as through Pan-African networks and projects. The Foundation is committed to developing training, networking, and related opportunities for women professionals who demonstrate their seriousness and commitment to their craft.

The Foundation is currently run by a team consisting of Lara Utian-Preston and Theresa Hill (both from South Africa), Edima Otuokon, Adenike Mantey and Lydia Idakula Sobogun (all three from Nigeria); Patrice Carter (USA); and Malu van Leeuwen (Zanzibar). ​
