Founded in 1903 under the chairmanship of R.H. Henderson, to offer lectures and debates. After two years it became dormant, but was revived in 1911 with a bigger brief: to cultivate a wider interest in literature, science, art and music. In 1914 an art section was founded, led by William. M. Timlin, a development which led to the founding of a public art gallery for Kimberley. Its theatrical activities included *** The Atheneum ceased it activities in 1945.
