The word keller means cellar and has been used, particularly in the Western Cape, in various forms for the names of restaurants and theatre-venues. (See the entry on Cellar Theatre).
In Afrikaans the name has specifically been used to refer to Die Kellerteater, at the University of Stellenbosch.
