Kamphoer: Die verhaal van Susan Nell ("Camp whore: the story of Susan Nell") is a play by Cecilia du Toit, Sandra Prinsloo and Lara Foot.

Original text

Adapted from the best-selling and debut novel Kamphoer by Francois Smit and the non-fiction, The Boer Whore by Nico Moolman. The play explores the Afrikaner woman’s experience in the concentration camps. The story is that of a woman raped and left for dead in an Anglo-Boer war concentration camp who is forced to confront her feelings of survivor’s guilt, shame, anger, and so much more when she meets one of her attackers years later.

Performance history in South Africa

2019: The production premiered as the flagship production of the 2019 Free State Arts Festival in Bloemfontein and received the award for Best National Theatre Debut at the festival’s Blinker Award. Subsequently presented at Golden Arrow Theatre, Baxter Theatre Centre (October). Directed by Lara Foot. Set and Lighting by Patrick Curtis. Photographs by Jesse Kramer. Performed by Sandra Prinsloo.
