Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill refers to a traditional English nursery rhyme. The original rhyme dates back to the 18th century and different numbers of verses were later added, each with variations in the wording.

The original text
Several stage versions of the rhyme have been created including:
Jack and Jill; or, Harlequin Prince Crammeo and the Demon Bhudlotte (1886).

Performance history in South Africa
1886: Jack and Jill; or, Harlequin Prince Crammeo and the Demon Bhudlotte presented by Wheeler Comedy Company in December at Theatre Royal, Cape Town.
1913: A version by John Tiller, Arthur Sturgess and Hermann Finck presented by the John Tiller Company at His Majesty's Theatre, Johannesburg (April), Theatre Royal, Durban (June/July), His Majesty's Theatre, Johannesburg (August) and the Opera House, Cape Town (September).
1918: The True Story of Jack and Jill by A.F. Corbett presented by Cecile Henriette Ruwers at the Opera House, Pretoria, featuring students from her studio.
