("In the days of Van Riebeeck") Described as an historical play in three acts, by Sanni Metelerkamp (1867-1945).

Original text

A play about Jan van Riebeeck, the founding father of the Dutch settlement in the Cape in 1652. The play was joint winner of the Afrikaans section of the inaugural Krugersdorp Municipal Dramatic and Operatic Society (KMDOS) playwriting competition in 1932 (with Hantie kom Huistoe by P.W.S. Schumann.)

There was some controversy about the award, since the text had apparently first been written in English, though no record has been found of that text. Published in Afrikaans by J.L. van Schaik in 1933, reprinted 1935.

Performance history in South Africa

First produced by KMDOS on 14, 16 and 18 November, 1932 with P.P.B. Breytenbach as "Van Riebeeck".
