The original text
The play is about the new Governor of the Island of Salva who is a former trade unionist and has risen through the ranks and been appointed by the new Labour Government. His first problem is a dock strike - as a former dock worker himself he tries to find a way to resolve the matter without resorting to lock-outs and sending troops in.
First produced in Leeds, Grand Theatre, 10 April 1950.
