Graham Dickason

Graham Dickason (1936 - 2020) was an author, genealogist and playwright.

Biography

Born Graham Brian Dickason in Johannesburg on 15 September, 1936

He had a lifelong interest in genealogy, his writing including the books:

Irish Settlers in the Cape: history of the Clanwilliam 1820 settlers from Cork Harbour. Cape Town: A.A. Balkema, 1973.

Cornish Immigrants to South Africa: The Cousin Jacks Contribution to the Development of Mining and Commerce, 1820-1920. Cape Town: A.A. Balkema, 1978.

Dickason died in November 2020 and his life partner of 50 years, theatre entrepreneur and historian Percy Tucker, died a few months later on 29 January, 2021

Contribution to South African Theatre, Film, Media and Performance

Besides writing articles and books on genealogical matters, he appears to have written an historical drama called Train Stops at Alicedale circa 2000AD. A copy of the typed text (with the author's name scratched out with a pen) was found in the Stellenbosch Drama Department archives in 2022.

The text draws together strands from the history of the Eastern Cape and the settlement of Alicedale, from 1778 to 2000.
