Frieda Ollemans (1915-?) was a sculptor and puppet-maker.

Training

In the early 1930s, Frieda Ollemans studied sculpture under HV Meyerowitz, a Russian/German wood sculptor. Ollemans went on to study at the Slade School of Fine Art in London before returning to Cape Town in 1940.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She created marionettes for puppet theatre and children’s art centres in the Western Cape. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1972 and she participated in shows locally and internationally. Her sculptures are usually carved from wood and are figural in nature.
