Francis is a play by British novelist, playwright, screenwriter and biographer Julian Mitchell (born 1935) [1] about St Francis of Assisi[2] who lived in the 12th century.

First production Greenwich Theatre, London, October 26, 1983.

Performance history in South Africa

1985: Nico Malan Theatre, Cape Town, November 9, 1985, directed by Keith Grenville, decor design by Peter Cazalet, costume design by Penny Simpson, lighting design by Malcolm Hurrell, music and coaching by Péter Louis van Dijk. Sean Taylor apeared as Francis and the rest of the cast were Neels Coetzee, Gary Carter, Peter Butler, Michael Drin, Phillip Boucher, Richard Farmer, Glynn Day, André Roothman, Francois Viljoen, John Dennison, David Dennis, Mark Graham, Mary Dreyer, Belinda Koning, George Langley, Ivan Pretorius and the Company .
