Esther Marie Pauw is a musician and an arts researcher.

Biography

An affiliate of Africa Open Institute in Stellenbosch, she undertakes artistic research, sonic improvising, classical flute performance, curatorial projects, and flute coaching.

Her training includes licentiates in flute teaching (UTLM, UNISA, 1991) and flute performance (UPLM, UNISA, 1991), a diploma in secondary cycle Music and English teaching (1992), the degrees BMus, BMus(Hons) and MMus (cum laude, Stellenbosch University) and a PhD in practice-based research (Stellenbosch University). She is a recipient of a 2020 Stellenbosch University Top Twenty Postdoctoral Award for Excellence in Research.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Besides her ongoing work in music and sound, she was appointed as a collection administrator for the ESAT repository held at the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation in 2025, with offices at Pieter Okkers House, 7 Joubert Street, Stellenbosch, South Africa.
