Biography
Born Elred Owermann Tidbury on 3 March 1914 at Tidburys Toll, Fort Beaufort, Cape Province, South Africa, studying at Marist College Uitenhage and Christian Brothers’ College,Kimberley.
He is best known in the UK for the roles he played in popular British television series, such as "Mark Saber" in Saber of London[1]
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
When he was demobbed in 1945 he went into partnership with theatre producer Brian Brooke in Cape Town, and undertook a tour of the country with their company. When they parted company shortly afterwards, Gray returned to UK where he would continue his career. In 1945 he starred in the African Consolidated Theatres production of While the Sun Shines at the Standard Theatre in Johannesburg.
He appeared as ” Clive Radingham” in Taubie Kushlick’s production of Write Me a Murder in 1962.
