Mrs Elaine Tasker, formerly Miss Elaine English before marrying James Tasker, came to Port Elizabeth in January 1946 as a speech training and dramatic art teacher at the Collegiate Girls' High School. She studied at the University of Cape Town.

Contribution to South African Theatre

In Cape Town she was involved in the production of JB Priestley's They Came to a City at the Little Theatre.

She portrayed the Madonna in South Africa's only Passion Play which was staged at the Alhambra Theatre.

Also in Cape Town, she produced a pantomime for 400 "Coloured" children in the Cape Town City Hall.

1946: Produced William Shakespeare's As You Like It for the Collegiate Girls in Port Elizabeth.

1946: Acted in The Blue Goose for PEMADS.

June 1947: Once again produced JB Priestley's They Came to a City.

??: Produced Richard of Bordeaux
