Een Bloedgetuige ("the blood witness") is a Dutch play in four acts by "N.N." (Jan Schuitemaker, fl 1860s).

The original text

Written for the Rederijkers, it is described as a dramatised historical sketch ("historisch-dramatische schets") for 10 performers and was published in Volume 4 of Poëzij voor Rederijkers by P.M. van de Made, Amsterdam, in 1858, later also published in Volume 6 of the Bibliotheek voor Rederijkers by J. Schuitemaker, Purmerende, 1869 (ascribed to "the author of Een Geschandvlekte Naam, etc").

It is ascribed to "N.N." (pseudonym of J. Schuitemaker, the publisher) by F.C.L. Bosman, 1980.

Performance history in South Africa

1871: Performed as De Bloedgetuigen by Aurora II in the hall of the Germania Hall, Cape Town on 6 July, with De Twee Huisknechts (Arnold) as an afterpiece.

1872: Performed as Een Bloedgetuige by Aurora II in the Oddfellows Hall, Cape Town, on 5 November, with De Kater, of De Verdronken Minnaar (Van Hogezand) as an afterpiece.
