Le Docteur Jojo is a French farce in three acts by Albert Carrè (1852-1938)[1]

First performed at the Théâtre de Cluny on 16 March, 1888.

Translations and adaptations

Translated and adapted into English as a "farcical comedy in three acts" called Doctor Bill by Hamilton Aidé (1826/7?-1906)[2].

No London date has been found for the original performance so far, but it apparently played in the USA in 1890, and was performed in Sydney, Australia, by Fanny Kemble and company at the Criterion Theatre during November 1890. It was performed in London again in 1894.

Performance history in South Africa

1895: Performed in English as Doctor Bill in the Opera House, Cape Town, under the auspices of the Wheeler Brothers by a Gaiety Company headed by Edward Sass as part of a season that began on 1 June.
