Dinsdae by Morrie by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom

Dinsdae by Morrie is the Afrikaans version of the play Tuesdays with Morrie by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, adapted from Albom's memoir. It traces the reunion of a sociology professor, dying of a terminal illness, and a former student who seeks him out.

The original text

The original play Tuesdays with Morrie by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, based on Albom's 1997 memoir of the same name (an account of his visits to his dying former sociology professor at Brandeis University, Morrie Schwartz). The stage adaptation premiered at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York, on 21 June 2002, and opened off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre on 19 November 2002.

Translations and adaptations

Translated, adapted and directed in Afrikaans by Hennie van Greunen as Dinsdae by Morrie, relocating the professor, Morrie, to Stellenbosch University.

Performance history in South Africa

2010: Staged at the US Woordfees, Stellenbosch, in the Japie Krige-saal on 4 and 6 March, as part of the Sanlam Dramafees. Translated, adapted and directed by Hennie van Greunen, with Chris van Niekerk and Pedro Kruger.
