Die Verleumder ("The slanderers") is a German tragedy in five acts by August Friedrich Ferdinand von Kotzebue (1761-1819)[1].

The original German text

Published in Graz 1796. (Attributed to "Präsidenten von Kotzebue" on the title page).

Also published in the collection Neue Sammlung deutscher Schauspiele in the same year.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as De Lasteraar ("The slanderer") and published before 1829. Later also published by P. Jaspin, 1842.

Productions in South Africa

1829: Produced in the De Liefhebbery Toneel, Cape Town, South Africa by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 6 June alongside De Kalkoen van Breda, of Menig Voordeel Komt Onverwacht (Van Ray)
