Die Goue Seun ("The Golden Son/Boy") is a play created by Saartjie Botha, Grethe Fox and Marthinus Basson.

The original text

Based on the 2002 book of the same name by J.C. Kannemeyer, the play focusses on the life of the South African poet and playwright Uys Krige and his relationship with his mother, the writer Sannie Uys (who was also Grethe Fox's grandmother).

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

2002: Staged at the KKNK, directed by Marthinus Basson, with Neels van Jaarsveld (Uys Krige). Grethe Fox (Sannie Krige), Francois le Roux and André Roothman. The play was awarded the Kanna Prize for Best Serious Drama at the KKNK. The production was subsequently staged in other South African venues and at festivals.
