De Vriend Tegen Wil en Dank (approx. "The friend against all odds") is a Dutch comedy in one act by A.A. van der Stempel Jr (fl 1960s-1870s).


The original text

Written for the Rederijkerskamer Oefening Baart Kunst in Kampen, Holland, and published there in Issue 5 of Thalia, a collection of plays for the rederijkers by K. van der Hulst in 1867.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1869: First performed in the Germania Hall, Cape Town, by Aurora II on 4 August, with Frank, de Gierigaard (Arnold).

1875: Performed in the Athenaeum Hall, Cape Town on 22 September by the Rederijkerskamer Aurora II, with Broederhaat, of Het Einde van Een Booswicht (Heroldt).
