Count Alarcos
Count Alarcos is a tragedy in five acts by Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881)[1].
The author is sometimes also referred to by his title, the Earl of Beaconsfield.

The original text
Completed in May, 1839, published in London in 1840. Republished, with the novel The Young Duke, in London, by Longmans, Green, and Co., 1903.
No records of a full performance of the play have been found so far.

Performance history in South Africa
1862: A scene from the play was performed as Alarcos in the Eastern Cape village of Keiskama Hoek's Garrison Theatre by the North Lincolnshire Regiment of Foot on June 21, with a cast consisting of J. Davies (Alarcos), J. Mann (Oran, a Moor), F. Doherty (Soldier), J. M'Kechnie (Lord). (For more on contemporary responses to the performances, see the entry on the North Lincolnshire Regiment of Foot)
