Carlton Theatre was an entertainment venue in Johannesburg (1912-1933).

History

The Carlton Theatre opened in September 1912 in the same block as the original Carlton Hotel. It was successful enough to drain patrons from the Orpheum and Tivoli. It was absorbed into African Theatres Trust in 1913 and demolished in 1933 after falling out of favour with the public. The venue was used to screen films as well as for live entertainment.

It was managed for a time by W.F. Woodman and by Horace Green.

Productions

Productions staged there include:

1913: Dick Whittington and his Cat
