Candaules Commissioner is an anti-war comedy (1968) by San Francisco playwright Daniel C. Gerould [1] (1928-2012).

The original text

In 1968 the play, informed by US military action in Vietnam and the Classical Greek allegory of King Candaules, premiered at the Stanford Repertory Theatre.

Performance history in South Africa

Staged in 1978 (with Dolls) in The Gym at The Space (Cape Town), directed by Richard Grant and Michael O'Brien, featuring Fred Abrahamse, Chris Brand, Richard Carter, Terry Norton, Michael Nott, Fiona Ramsay and Jennie Reznek. Lighting and sound by Tony Papacostas, music by Richard Grant and stage management by Liz Fellows-Smith.
