Most of Romanus's plays were adaptations of (unacknowledged) works by others and were originally published anonymously. This text was first performed in the Kaiserlichen Köninglichen Privilegirten Theater on January 1, 1763 and published in Vienna at the Krausischen Buchladen in 1763.
Translations and adaptations
Adapted to a three act German version called Der Doppelpapa ("the double father") by Friedrich Gustav Hagemann in 1810.
Hagemann's version was in turn translated into Dutch as De Dubbelde Vader ("the double father") by Willem van Dinsen, Jr and published by Johannes Christoffel van Kesteren, Amsterdam, 1819.
