The original text
The play, written in commemoration of the passing of South African author Olive Schreiner on 11 Dec 1920. It was originally written for the stage, intended for performance at the Arena Platform at the National Arts Festival.
Translations and adaptations
In view of the Level 3 COVID lockdown restrictions, the text was reworked and turned into a collaborative theatre and film piece for presentation as part of as part of the Virtual National Arts Festival.
Performance history in South Africa
2020: The film version was presented as a curated piece as part of the Virtual National Arts Festival from 25 June to 5 July, 2020. Directed by Alan Farber, with Natasha Sutherland (as Rebekah Schreiner, Olive’s mother), Lauren Urmson (the young Olive) and Michelle Douglas (Olive Schreiner in her old age).
