Betty Hugo (19**- 2001).

Biography

Born Betty Botha in Cape Town, the daughter of Minna Freund and Judge C.L. Botha. Married to Leon Hugo.

Youth

Training

Studied at University of Stellenbosch.

Career

She was a founder member of the Libertas Theatre Club in Stellenbosch.

Became a lecturer in English at the University of South Africa and later the Pretoria Technikon. While there she was an active member of the *** dramatic society and wrote a thesis on translations of Shaw’s works into German.

She was a lecturer in drama at Pretoria University in 1978.

She made her debut as actress in So praat die ou rivier in 1954. She has also appeared in Dear Antoine (CAPAB 1971), The Great Galeoto (PACT 1974), **
