Bennie Fritz (1927?-2015) was a journalist, editor, author and playwright


Biography

He was the editor of the opular women's magazine Rooi Rose for two years, before becoming the story editor for Huisgenoot in 1975. Beloved and highly regarded as editor and mentor by his contemporaries, he also wrote numerous Afrikaans novels (more than 30), short stories and serials over the years, besides encouraging and publishing writers. He was also the co-editor, with Leo Kritzinger, of Eeugenoot : Honderd jaar saam met Huisgenoot (published by Huisgenoot, Cape Town, in 1999)

He passed away in George on 12 May, 2015.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

His writing included a large number of plays, as well as scripts for radio dramas and series (e.g for Springbok Radio and the Afrikaans service of Radio South Africa), among them Bruid vir 'n Gestorwe Man, Streng Privaat,
