Beneath Silent Waters is a play by Ntombesizwe Tena. A celebration of womanhood, by five women who weave their stories into an entertaining narrative, sharing their backgrounds, their relationships and their freedom to heal the wounds of the past.

Perfoemance history in South Africa

2007: First produced at the Ikhwezi Theatre Festival in 2007, then staged as a full-scale production in the Baxter Sanlam Studio in the same year. The original play was workshopped by the cast, under the direction of Itumeleng Wa-Lehulere, assisted by Lionel Newton, with original music by Nhlanhla Magagula and percussion accompaniment by Mzoxolo Mbula. The cast comprised Nobuhle Ketelo, Nomzamo Matodlana, Bukiwe Menziwa, Pumeza Rashe and Chuma Sopotela.
