Athina Vahla is an independent multidisciplinary artist, researcher and lecturer.

Biography
Athina Vahla holds a PhD by Public Works and a Masters in Choreography (Middlesex University, London UK) and continues to update her choreographic practice through collaborative projects, research and creative exchanges around the world.
She works as a lecturer at Central St Martins University of Arts, London College of Fashion, London Contemporary Dance School and Mountview College, in London UK.
Whiles she specializes in choreography and has produced work internationally across the UK, Europe, South Africa, Mexico, and East Asia Arts, her interests include matters such as the merging of sports and theatre into performance events, the performativity of academic knowledge and collaborative practice as a way of building sustainable communities, bridging cultures, and finding the connections between seemingly different areas of practice.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
She was the curator of the multidisciplinary piece Polis for the National Arts Festival, Grahamstown, in 2012 and has been an honorary research associate to the of Rhodes University Drama Department since 2013.
