The original text
It is based on the 1955 novel by David Garnett. The original West End production, directed by Trevor Nunn, opened on April 17th 1989 at the Prince of Wales Theatre, where it ran for 1,325 performances. The Broadway production opened on April 8th 1990 at the Broadhurst Theatre and ran for 377 performances, garnering six Tony Award nominations (including Best Musical) on the way.

2009: Produced by the Johannesburg Civic Theatre in association with St Martins Productions at the Nelson Mandela Theatre stage of The Johannesburg Civic Theatrefrom May 22nd to June 28th, directed by Nikolai Foster, starring Samantha Peo, Robert Finlayson, Angela Kilian and Keith Smith.
