There are broadly speaking two ways in which this adjective may be used: (1) of or relating to the United States of America; (2) of or relating to North and/or South America. In South Africa this adjective is normally used in the first way, to refer to the people, beliefs, politics, customs, products, culture and influence of the United States of America.
