Africa's Amalgamated Theatres

Africa's Amalgamated Theatres was a company that owned a chain of bio-theatres.

History

Established in 1911 when the Tivoli Company (owning a number of Tivoli picture houses in and around Johannesburg) combined with Union Bioscope Company (which owned the Vaudette chain of theatres) to form Africa’s Amalgamated Theatres.

In April 1913, the company was bought out along with a number of other companies including the Empire Theatres Company by I.W. Schlesinger and A.H. Stodel (Harry Stodel) to form African Theatres Trust.
