A New Song is a play by Zakes Mofokeng.

The original text

A New Song is a moving story of one man's (Sello's) struggle to succeed on his own terms. As a musician, Sello would rather not play than be ignored by audiences.

Published in Totem voices : plays from the black world repertory, edited with an introduction by Paul Carter Harrison. New York : Grove Press, 1989.

A New Song was first premiered at the Cultural Resistance Festival in Botswana in 1982. Since then the play has been staged in more than 16 countries, and has been translated into German as well being prescribed for drama students at the University of Texas in Austin.
