Koppigheid ("Stubborness") is a one act play by W.J. Viljoen (1869-1929).


The original text

Written in what was known as Vereenvoudigde Hollands, it was first staged by the Stellenbosch branch of the Afrikaanse Taalvereniging (ATV).

Translations and adaptations

It was apparently in later years usually performed in Afrikaans under the same title.

Performance history in South Africa

1906: Performed by the Stellenbosch branch of the Afrikaanse Taalvereniging (ATV) in the original simplified Dutch in the Stadshuis of Swellendam on Tuesday 15 May, in support of a orphanage.

1930: Performed in Afrikaans by the Krugersdorp Dramatic and Operatic Club on the 1st of March and repeated on the 23rd of March, directed by P.P.B. Breytenbach.
