He is married to the actress Gay Lambert.


Training

He studied at the Royal College of Music in Manchester, England.


Career

Quoted from the programme notes of Tom Foolery: 'Howard has worked as piano entertainer at all the leading venues in Johannesburg and for six months was band leader at the Top of the Carlton, and has backed all the country's leading cabaret stars.'

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He was musical director for such shows as Tom Foolery (1981), Robinson Crusoe (PACT), Jacques Brel, From Berlin to Broadway, Presto, Old Tyme Music Hall, Christian and the latter part of Oh What a Lovely War. He has written the music for several film and television productions including Wide Land, Better the Devil you Know and most recently, Attie and Joos.

He composed the music for Babette: a Love Story (1999); Africa Dreaming.
