East London Schools Music and Drama Association, an amateur dramatic society in East London (circa 1941 - ?).

Founding, function and history

The East London Schools Music and Drama Association was established circa 1941. The association was involved in providing local theatre entertainment in the city. The association had 23 member-schools, and held an annual Festival and Youth Week in collaboration with the East London Rotary Club.

In the early 1950's, they were joined by the Dramatic Society of East London, the Music and Variety Club, East London Technical College Drama Club and The Children’s Theatre to raise funds toward the building of what was to be the Guild Theatre.
