He is the author of plays such as The Jero Plays, The Swamp Dwellers, Death and the King's Horseman, The Lion and the Jewel, King Baabu (directed by the author, Baxter Theatre 2002) and A Play of Giants, all of which have been performed in South Africa.

He was a guest lecturer in South Africa a number of times after 1994.
