Valerie Miller (19*-). Actress, radio personality theatre director.

Biography

She was born on 1 May 1928 in Liverpool. Came to south Africa in 1958, settling in Johannesburg. She died on 25 April 1989 in Durban, Natal, South Africa. She was married to Peter Brown.

Career

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Roles in Kushlick-Gluckman’s revival of Clare Boothe’s The Women at the Intimate Theatre (1961), The Killing of Sister George (Cape Town 1966), Once Upon a Mattress (1967), The Lion in Winter, (1968), Private Lives and Beaux' Stratagem, Ghosts (1968), Heartbreak House, Something New.

She directed Pyjama Tops in 1963, the Michael Brooke production of The Four Poster, A Shot in the Dark (NAPAC 1973).

Awards

Three Leaf Arts Award for Best Actress for her performance as Eleanor in The Lion in Winter, 1968.

Three Leaf Arts Award for Best Actress for her performances in Private Lives and Beaux' Stratagem.
