There are numerous (and an increasing number of ) theatre, film, literary, and other festivals and competitions in South Africa. Usually annual events, they are made up of different individual performances, but in fact can also constitute (or be viewed as) theatrical events or performances in their own right.

For South African Public Events such as Pageants, Carnivals, and Festivals, Fairs, Markets, and other events devoted to sporting, social, commercial and other purposes, see PLAYS IV: Pageants, carnivals and public performances under South African Stage Plays

Because they can of course be seen as venues utilized by for other events, they may also be listed in the the section South African Theatre Venues, Companies, Societies, etc .
