Peter Tshobisa Mtuze (born 1941). Playwright, novelist, poet, translator.

Biography

He was born in Middelburg in the Eastern Cape. He became the first black professor at Rhodes University when he joined the African languages department in 1988.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Author of the Xhosa plays Umdlanga (Traditional weapon for circumcision – 1976), Itsili (1987).

Awards, etc.

Honoured by the Eastern Cape's government for his lifetime's work in 2015.
