Neil Coppen (19**- ) is a South African actor, playwright, stage director and designer.

In 2010 he was now working as a writer/director and designer in Durban, as well as a playwright and freelance journalist for various South African publications, including the Sunday Independent.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Neil began his acting career performing in productions of Twelfth Night, The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged), Oedipus Rex, Dangerous Liaisons, King Lear and Wit, which premiered at the National Arts Festival in 2009.

He designed Little Foot (2012) and directed Animal Farm (2015).

As playwright

Neil Coppen's plays include: Suicidal Pigeons; Two...; The Beginning of the End (with Clare Mortimer), Tin Bucket Drum; Tree Boy; Abnormal Loads; NewFoundLand;

Awards, etc

Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Theatre in 2011.

He has won leading actor awards for his performances in Hamlet, Proof and Dracula.

Among awards in different categories he has won a Durban Theatre Award in 2007 New SA Script for Tin Bucket Drum and a Naledi Award in 2015 as director of Animal Farm.
