A Cape Town barber, who had named his shop "Joe Barber" (a pun on the Afrikaans word "jou", meaning "your", and pronounced "joe" in Kaaps.) The shop and the title had become the inspiration for the series of hits plays by the same name in the first decade of the new millenium. Swain played a key role supporting performances of the plays over the years and it became tradition that on the last performance of every season he would take his bow at the end of the show.
