The original text
A play about social issues on the Cape Flats during the Apartheid regime, including the resettlement issue. Tells the story of Joanie and her family, who find themselves in the well-off neighbourhood of Woodstock in the 1960’s. The resettlement act sees them being pushed out to the Cape Flats where moral and social disintegration leads to the death of her husband and baby.

1975-76: First performed in Afrikaans by the Cape Flats Players in 1975-76.
1981: Performed in English as Joanie Galant at the Market Theatre in July, as part of a double bill (with What About De Lô). Directed by Peter Braaf with Phalencia Adams, Agnesia Braaf, Peter Braaf, Anette Braaf, Sandra Braaf, Paul Cookson, Benjamin de Kock, Warren Peterson and Ivan Sylvester. Photographs by Ruphin Coudyzer.
2000: Presented in Afrikaans by the Cape Town pop group The Rockets, the Cape Flats Players and Robert Pearce on the Voorbrandfees at the KKNKfestival.
