Biography

Training

B.(Dram), University of Pretoria, 1981.


Career

PACT from January 1982. Since 1985 she directs schools programmes for PACT. Since 1992 Associate Director at PACT, resigned a year later although she still did ad hoc work for PACT.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

First play directed Die Hoofkarakter Sensor die Drama by Fransi Phillips for the first PACT Potpourri Festival in 1983.

Other plays directed for subsequent PACT Potpourri Festivals: Die Clown, Journey Without Words, Die Prys and Man in die Blou Maan. .

First professional direction Fluit vir die Vlieë. Not to Die Today (based on Alcestis by Euripides), Dalk (winner Fringe Prize Nat Arts F 1988), Taraboemdery (1989).

1990 The Seagull, (Adcock-Ingram Theatre) Houd-den-Bek; 1991 Die Sakeman van Venesië, 1992 Romeo and Juliet ( State Theatre and the Alexander Theatre, 1993 Droomsmokkelaar (TRUK); 1994. Directed Steve Tesich's On the Open Road in 1994. Dalene Matthee’s Fiela se Kind (State Theatre, 1999 Op soek na generaal Mannetjies Mentz (Aardklop), 2008 Schalk Schoombie's Samoerai (Aardklop).

As actress in Hard Times, Antjie Somers and I, Callaway Farce and Die Wonderwerk.


Other theatre work includes 36 performances of an Industrial Theatre Production in Ghana.

DALRO Prize, Best Director for Die Sakeman van Venesië, 1991.

Hanekom Bursary, PACT’s award for exceptional contributions to the industry, 1991
